A recent study by Follett notes that textbook prices have risen by 812% since 1978–that’s more than twice the rate of cost of a new home. A book purchased in 1978 for $25 would now cost $203. This has been an ongoing financial challenge for many of our students. Obviously, textbook prices are not an issue just for Allegheny; there are nationwide efforts to provide alternatives to expensive textbooks. Books and other material, known as Open Education Resources, or OER, are being developed, and shared through a number of organizations and venues. 1. nicola em 22/08/2014 às 8:43 disse:Fernando, em adição ao debate cito uma lenda: quando em visita ao Brasil no início dos anos 1970, Kissinger – encarregado de prospectar e auditar a um só tempo a correção das conclusões dos “brasilianistas” (lembra-se?) – teria dito ao então ministro da fazenda Delfim Netto que o Brasil não seria o destino do capital imigrante porque era um mercado regulamentado, no sentido de que apresentava salários rígidos e leis limitantes do fluxo de capital externo, altamente prejudiciais à obtenção do sobre-lucro pretendido por estes investimentos. Surgiram então os tigres asiáticos, que tiveram seus pobres intensamente explorados…
   Seria fácil ouvir do Prof Delfim sobre este fato, ele ainda vive; talvez o Prof. João Manuel tenha acesso ao Prof. e possa conferir esta informação. É muito importante saber isso porque eleva a auto-estima do brasileiro transferindo o debate para as formas de defesa que o Brasil possui que redunda em menor disponibilidade de capital externo (de forma alguma uma desvantagem, pois a entrada deste faz-se a partir da análise de cada um dos projetos que o capitalista estrangeiro pretende implantar) em vez da desqualificação contida na expressão “capitalismo tardio”.

O livro promove uma atualização do debate brasileiro sobre o desenvolvimento capitalista tardio, periférico e dependente, bem como sobre o fenômeno do “desenvolvimentismo”. Nesses termos, retoma a tradição crítica e reformista brasileira da “construção nacional interrompida” do Mestre Celso Furtado.

A partir deste prisma teórico, propõe uma reflexão sobre as transformações do presente: o crescimento com distribuição de renda e “desindustrialização”, no momento em que ocorre um brutal acirramento da concorrência intercapitalista e interestatal no enfrentamento da crise financeira e econômica global.

A intensidade das mudanças socioeconômicas ocorridas no Brasil e no mundo exige um esforço coletivo de reflexão. Exige também a revitalização do debate – de múltiplas questões e de diversos pontos de vista –, a fim de auxiliar no alargamento dos horizontes dos líderes sindicais, do pequeno, do médio e o grande capital, das elites políticas, das classes subalternas e dos formadores da opinião pública, e fazer avançar…
